The Kaduna State Government has announced that the monthly state-wide sanitation exercise will hold on Saturday, from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
This is contained in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, issued on Friday in Kaduna.
Maiyaki said the exercise underscored the government’s commitment to environmental sustainability, public health and the maintenance of high sanitation standards across the state.
He said that during the exercise, markets, schools, workplaces, motor parks and other public places would remain closed until 10:00 a.m..
According to him, this is to enable the residents to participate fully in cleaning their immediate environment.
The Commissioner for Environment, Abubakar Buba, also described the monthly sanitation exercise as a critical component of the state’s preventive healthcare strategy.
“The monthly sanitation exercise is not merely a routine activity; it is a collective civic responsibility aimed at safeguarding public health, preventing disease outbreaks, and ensuring a cleaner and safer Kaduna State for all,” Buba said.
He called on community leaders, market associations, transport unions and residents to ensure full compliance, warning that defaulters would face appropriate legal action in line with existing environmental laws and regulations.
The government urged the residents to treat the exercise with the seriousness it deserves, stressing that environmental cleanliness remains a shared responsibility between the government and the people.
The residents were therefore encouraged to cooperate with the relevant authorities to ensure the success of the exercise.
