Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani offered scholarship to the 137 kidnapped and rescued Kuriga school children home.
The governor also announced a donation of N10 million to the family of their teacher who tragically died in the bandits’ captivity due to health complications.
Governor Sani also pledged that his government would provide scholarships up to university level for the children of the late teacher, Malam Abubakar.
Returning from Abuja to bid the children farewell on Thursday after three days of psychosocial therapy at the Kaduna Women and Children Shelter, Governor Sani revealed his personal commitment, under the auspices of the Uba Sani Foundation, to support the education of all 137 pupils and students up to university level.
“We recognized the need to keep the children for this duration because upon their arrival on Sunday,
” it was evident that some of them required psychological support. Consequently, we engaged the services of psychologists and medical doctors to attend to their needs.
“Now, they have received adequate psychosocial counseling and therapy. I am pleased to see that all the children are happy and in high spirits.
“As you return home to reunite with your parents and other family members who are eager to see you, please know that all of you remain my children.
“As a result, the Uba Sani Foundation, which has been in existence for the past 16 years, will take care of the education of all 137 of you.
“Our government will also carry out extensive rehabilitation works in the Kuriga community and the school. I have already given directives to that effect. Kuriga community is one of the most peaceful communities in Kaduna State.
“Furthermore, the Kaduna State Government has collectively decided to support Malam Abubakar’s family with N10 million. Additionally, considering his young family, the government will provide scholarships to his children until they complete secondary school and university,” the Governor affirmed.
