The absence of a Sokoto High Court judge on Wednesday stalled judgment in the suit filed by the dethroned Emir of Maru, Alhaji Abubakar Ibrahim, against the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and five others.
The Zamfara State Government had in 2019 sacked the emir for allegedly aiding and abetting banditry. He was kept in the Zamfara Government House for eleven months.
The former Emir had dragged the IGP and five others to court for illegal detention and defamation of character.
The other five respondents in the suit include the Secretary to Zamfara State Government, Alhaji Bala Maru, the state’s Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), the Commissioner of Police, Assistant Director, DSS.
Justice Bello Shinkafi had fixed Aug. 11 for judgment, however, the court did not sit because the presiding judge was said to be indisposed.
The counsel to the emir, Sam Anosike, told journalists that a new date for the judgment would be communicated to all parties.
