Ebonyi State Governor David Umahi says the Federal High Court in Abuja, which declared his seat vacant for defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has no power to do so.
The court presided over by Justice Inyang Ekwo had held that the 393,042 votes polled by Umahi in the March 9, 2019 governorship election belonged to PDP and cannot be legally transferred to APC.
Also sacked by the court were the Deputy Governor, Eric Igwe, Speaker of the House of Assembly, Francis Nwifuru and 17 members of the State House of Assembly.
Justice Inyang Ekwo ordered the PDP to immediately send names of replacements to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) so that fresh elections can be conducted.
However, reacting to the judgment on Tuesday, Umahi described the development as a huge joke.
He said the presiding Judge by the pronouncement, has put the judiciary on trial.
