A Jos Magistrates Court on Wednesday sentenced a 23-year-old trader, Joseph Peter to nine months imprisonment for stealing the foodstuff and a gas cooker of his neighbour.
Magistrate Shawomi Bokkos sentenced Peter after he pleaded guilty to house breaking and theft.
Bokkos in her judgment, however, gave the convict an option to pay N20,000 as fine.
The magistrate also ordered the convict to pay N130,000 as compensation to the complainant.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Ijuptil Thiawur told the court that the case was reported at the Anglo-Jos Police Station on Jan.11 by Ngumut Jacob, the complainant.
Thiawur said the convict also stole clothes, a laptop and cellphone, an offence he said is punishable under the Plateau Penal Code Law.
