Former President Goodluck Jonathan has appealed to politicians to behave themselves during the conduct of the 2023 general elections because the world is watching.
Jonathan who spoke after voting at Otuoke, Ogbia Local Government Area said BVAS is better than the card reader.
He also condemned vote- buying and urged those who indulge in it to desist from such for the betterment of the society.
Governor Douye Diri speaking on the conduct of the election blamed INEC for the logistics problem which delayed election in lost communities in the state.
According to him, INEC should be thinking of how to extend the time of voting for voters in Bayelsa because of the delay in the commencement of voting.
He however lauded the efficiency of BVAS which he said has improved Nigeria’s electoral process and advocated for the introduction of electronic voting to check electoral fraud and improve the overall electoral process.
Also speaking former governor of the state and Senator representing Bayelsa West, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson commended INEC for the BVAS which he said had revolutionised voting in the country.
According to him as a member of the Committee on INEC, he stood on the side of democracy by ensuring that BVAS was introduced as part of Nigeria’s electoral process.
He pointed out that with the BVAS, every politician would now know its political clout instead of the previous system where elections are just written.
Dickson however expressed displeasure with the mixed up in the Voters Register which prevented some people from voting as the names could not be found.
