President Muhammadu Buhari Thursday offered automatic employment to 110 ex-corps members in the Federal Civil Service and scholarships for the pursuit of post-graduate studies up to doctoral level in any university in Nigeria.
Over 500 corps members from the state level were nominated for the presidential award by the National Selection Committee, with 110 making the final list to receive the award.
Buhari also announced cash reward to the honourees during the award ceremony held at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja.
“You have proved yourselves worthy ambassadors of your respective families and the National Youth Service Corps. I am very proud of you and confident that the Award shall spur you to greater service to the Nation and humanity,’’ he said.
The president commends former Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, for establishing the scheme.
The President’s NYSC Honours Award was instituted in 1974 to encourage Corps Members to contribute to the overall national development by embarking on community development projects (CDS).
