The Jigawa state government has provided special support to 10-year-old Khadija Muhammed, who was assaulted five months ago, by a suspect (name withheld).
The State Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports and Culture, Mr Sagir Musa, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Wednesday.
He said that Governor Umar Namadi, was sad about the condition of the girl, adding that “the Governor has ordered that proactive measures be taken to support little Khadija and her family during this trying period.
“We have confirmation from the Attorney General of the state that the perpetrator was arrested months ago and is presently on remand in prison.
“His Excellency the Governor has ordered that the best medical care and rehabilitation be arranged for her as soon as possible,” the Commissioner said.
He added that Namadi has also ordered the free re-enrolment of the victim in school as soon as she recovers.
To relieve Muhammed’s family, the governor has ordered the Ministry of Women Affairs, to secure a different accommodation for them to fasten her psychological recovery.
Musa, however, pledged the administration’s commitment to the total eradication of Gender Based Violence in Jigawa, through supporting victims of sexual assault and ensuring their well-being.
He appealed to victims of rape and their families to report cases to appropriate authorities for rapid response, instead of resorting to social media.
The Commissioner further warned perpetrators of Gender Violence to desist from the act, as the administration has set aside strict measures for such acts.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Muhammed of the Galamawa area of Jigawa was assaulted sometime in July 2024.
The suspect was arrested and sent to jail, while Khadija is in a hospital in Kano receiving medical care and rehabilitation.
