Amendment of the law establishing the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is underway to peg the minimum age for candidates intending to sit for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) at16 years and above, the Senate Committee on Basic Education, has said.
The committee said this during its oversight visit to JAMB Headquarters on Monday.
The committee’s Vice Chairman, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, said the committee had identified two major areas that needed to go into the process of amending the act establishing JAMB.
“Other than that, we also intend to pass on what we have seen today to the appropriate MDAs, the Federal Ministry of Education to ensure the support that JAMB needs is given to them,” he said.
