Senator Ibrahim Shekarau has officially defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP).
The two-term former governor of Kano state made the declaration on Monday at his Mundubawa home in Kano.
Mr Shekarau was a member of the rulingt All Progressives Congress (APC) until three months ago when he decamped to NNPP
The senator was formally accepted into the PDP by the party’s Presidential Candidate Atiku Abubakar, the party’s National Chairman Iyorchia Ayu, serving governors, lawmakers, among top shots.
He said he had written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to announce his withdrawal from the race for Kano central senatorial district under the NNPP.
Some of the PDP top shots at the event include the party’s Vice Presidential Candidate and Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, Governors Aminu Waziri Tambuwal (Sokoto) and Darius Ishaku (Taraba).
There were former Vice President Namadi Sambo, PDP BoT Chairman Walid Jibrin, former Governors Saminu Turaki and Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Attahiru Bafarawa (Sokoto), Ahmed Makarfi (Kaduna), and Boni Haruna (Adamawa).
