The legal teams of the Federal Government and the defence have been adjusted in the treasonable felony trial of the leader of the proscribed separatist group, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
The FG team is led by Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN, who has replaced David Kaswe, a lawyer with the Federal Ministry of Justice while the defence team is now being led by P. A. M. Ejiofor, who replaced Mike Ozekhome (SAN).
The Department of State Services (DSS),has been keeping Kanu in its custody and would bring him to court this morning. proceedings begin.
Meanwhile, DSS operatives have been deployed inside and outside the Federal High Court in Abuja as Kanu’s trial is expected to commence today.
The Court of Appeal which had discharged and acquitted Kanu in October 2022 when the matter was suspended, also declared illegal and unlawful, the abduction of Kanu from Kenya to Nigeria and quashed the terrorism charges brought against him by the Federal Government.
However, the FG appealed against the judgment at the Supreme Court which ruled on December 15, 2023, that the trial of Kanu on terrorism charges should continue.
The DSS has been detaining Kanu since June 2021 when he was repatriated from Kenya to Nigeria.
