An Anglican Priest, Emeka Merenu, has been gunned down by gunmen in his parsonage at Orsu Iheteukwa, in Orsu local government area of Imo state on Tuesday.
The priest, however, hails from Amorji Agbomiri village, in Nkwerre local government area of the state.
A member of the State House of Assembly, representing Nkwerre local government area, Obinna Okwara, has confirmed the incident to journalists.
The deceased was allegedly murdered by suspected members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN), the militant wing of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB).
The lawmaker said that the priest was killed over an unfounded allegation that he brought in soldiers to secure his church and secondary school under his supervision.
Mr Okwara said the priest’s vehicle was also set ablaze.
There was no immediate comment from the police spokesperson in the state, CSP Mike Abattam.
