President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday says he will consider the “heavy” request for an unconditional release of leader of the proscribed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB).
Buhari said this is when he received a group under the aegis of Highly Respected Igbo Greats, led by First Republic parliamentarian and Minister of Aviation, Chief Mbazulike Amaechi, at the State House, Abuja.
He said the unconditional release of Kanu runs contrary to the doctrine of separation of powers between the Executive and Judiciary.
Kanu is currently standing trial for treason, and has been detained in custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).
The High Court in Abuja where Kanu is standng trial had adjourned the case till January.
