Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara state has directed the Council Chairmen in the state to involve traditional rulers in the management of local government for effective services delivery.
This is contained in a statement by the Public Relations Officer, Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Abdullahi Muhammad issued to newsmen in Gusau on Tuesday.
Muhammad quoted the governor as saying this at a workshop organised by the ministry for local government and chieftaincy affairs for Council Chairmen and Vice Chairmen.
He said the workshop was conducted to prepared them ahead of their task of managing council resources.
The governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Mallam Mani-Mummune, said involvement of traditional rulers and other critical stakeholders would no doubt foster growth and development in the councils.
“As a rescue mission, I urge you to run inclusive government that will bring positive change to your respective communities.
“You are also required to carry out all developmental projects within the constitutional framework to ensure law and order in your councils,” he charged.
The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Garba Ahmed advised the council leaders to be honest and exhibit the spirit of hard work to bring meaningful development to their areas.
“The essence of this training is to shape your minds towards effective policies and programmes capable of transforming your council areas for the good of the society,” he said.
