Kano, March 5, 2026 (NAN) The Police Command in Kano State has assured residents of its readiness to protect lives and property following a viral inflammatory social media contents.

The command also detained a suspect over alleged circulation of the inflammatory audio and video clips capable of inciting public disorder and creating fear among the residents.

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu-Bakori, said this at a joint news conference on Thursday in Kano.

“The Kano State Police Command has intercepted reports of circulating audio and video clips containing statements capable of inciting public disorder and creating fear among residents.

“The command, in a sting operation, swiftly arrested the suspect who is currently being interrogated,” he said.

Adamu-Bakori said the command viewed the inflammatory statements seriously and strongly condemned the creation and dissemination of such content.

He warned that those involved in spreading false information, hate speech or inciting violence would be prosecuted.

“Any person found spreading false information will be arrested, investigated and prosecuted accordingly. The command will not tolerate any form of hate speech, incitement or violence,” he said.

He said the command had adopted proactive security measures to prevent breach of peace and ensure the safety of the residents.

According to Adamu-Bakori, the command is working closely with sister security agencies to monitor the situation and respond promptly to any security threat.

He urged residents to remain calm and vigilant, and report suspicious activities to the police through the emergency numbers: 08032419754, 08123821575, 08076091271 and 09029292926.

The commissioner also urged stakeholders, community and religious leaders to promote peace and understanding among the people.

Meanwhile, Ibrahim Waiya, Kano Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, reiterated the state government commitment to security of lives and property.

He expressed concern over the spread of misinformation and fake news on social media, adding that the government was collaborating with security agencies to counter narratives capable of undermining peace and stability in the state.

“Some individuals are using social media platforms to circulate misleading information and damaging content targeting the state and respected personalities, such actions could threaten public order and must be discouraged.

“Kano had long maintained a reputation as a peaceful and cosmopolitan state, and a major commercial hub in northern Nigeria.”

He urged residents of the state to continue their lawful activities, assuring that the government and security agencies were fully prepared to deal with acts capable of disrupting peace in the state.
