The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Professor Mahmoud Yakubu is leading a management team in a a closed-door meeting with the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja on Tuesday.
Details were yet to emerge from the meeting, 21st CENTURY CHRONCLE reports that the meeting is in connection with the party’s preparations for its upcoming National Executive Committee meeting.
The PDP had written to the commission last week notifying INEC of it planned NEC meeting fixed for June 30, but the commission rejected the letter citing procedural error.
The commission said such letter should be duely signed by both the National Chairman and National Secretary for it to be attended to.
In a statement in Abuja on Tuesday, PDP Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, among other things stated that both the INEC and PDP would meet in respect of the 100TH NEC meeting of the party slated for June 30.
They both went into the closed-door meeting immediately after having a press meeting at the INEC headquarters.
The meeting will also discuss internal party processes, upcoming elections, and the status of the party’s leadership structure.
Those present include the acting National Chairman of PDP, Umar Damagum; INEC Chairman Prof Mahmood Yakubu, PDP governors, top INEC officials, among others.
