Bandits have kidnapped an officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Umar Yusuf, when they attacked a NIS outpost in Balia community, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
Locals said the invaders came on motorcycles at about 10 a.m. on Tuesday and overpowered the personnel at the outpost located along Babanna Road, close to the Benin Republic border.
An anonymous Immigration officer revealed that the attackers seized two AK-47 rifles loaded with ammunition from them during the attack.
Residents said Babanna Road has, over the years, become notorious for banditry and terrorist attacks.
It would be recalled that in November 2025, bandits killed two soldiers and kidnapped scores —including civilians and security operatives when they attacked a convoy of the member representing Agwara/Borgu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Jafaru Mohammad Ali Damisa.
The lawmaker was travelling to Babanna in Borgu LGA when the gunmen ambushed his convoy at about 11 a.m., killing people including security personnel attached to him.
Also, in July 2025, SP Suleiman was killed by suspected ISWAP at a service outpost in Lumma Sanke along the Babanna–Wawa Road.
The officer reportedly lost his life when heavily armed attackers stormed the outpost, killed him, and set his body ablaze along with his service carbine.
