The Police Monitoring Unit is to investigate allegations against CSP Hussaini Gimba and CSP Hassan Gimba, over the disappearance and alleged killing of Abubakar Idris (Dadiyata).
The Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, gave the order after a Kano-based activist and human rights lawyer, Abba Hikima submitted petitions to the IGP.
IGP Disu, through his Principal Staff Officer, CF Lateef Adio Ahmed, said
the matter had been referred to the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Monitoring Unit for immediate action.
He told the petitioners that the Force was committed to justice and accountability.
The petitions drew attention to claims made by a former Senior Special Assistant to the Minister of state for Defence, Muhammad Musa Kamarawa, who alleged that both officers threatened him, saying they had killed Dadiyata and others in his presence at Operations Yaki, Kaduna.
One of the petitions said if the allegations were false, a transparent investigation would clear the officers’ names, adding that if true, justice must take its course “irrespective of rank, office or influence.”
The petitions said there was public concern over Dadiyata’s disappearance and demy the setting up of an independent investigative panel.
Dadiyata, who a lecturer and social media activist, was kidnapped from his residence in Barnawa, Kaduna, in August 2019.
