Minister of communications and digital economy, Isa Pantami, has revealed that the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector contributed 17.92 per cent to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the second quarter of 2021.
He made this known on Tuesday at the unveiling of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) strategic vision plan for 2021-2025 in Abuja.
The minister who represented President Muhammadu Buhari, said the ICT sector contributed 17.92 per cent to GDP in Q2, 2021 compared to 14.91 per cent in Q1 2021 and 17.83 per cent in the previous year.
According to him, this was unprecedented in the history of the country.
He commended the efforts of the NCC board for coming up with important initiatives that were in alignment with the three priority areas of President Buhari’s administration.
Pantami informed the gathering that the president had written to him to commend the performance of the ICT sector in the second quarter of 2021 and he was extending same to all the stakeholders in the sector.
He reiterated that the federal government will only implement policies that will enable businesses to thrive in the country.
