Zamfara State Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle has said he joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) on his own volition and not forced to do so.
Reacting to media reports that he was forced to detect to the ruling party “so as to stop the killing of innocent citizens in the state,” Matawalle through his media, aide Yusuf Idris said such “dangerous misinformation were handiwork” of those who did not wish the state and it’s people well.
He said the reports were parts of a ploy to prevent the governor from achieving his objective of attracting more federal presence and development to the State.
He said: “It is a known fact that Governor Matawalle is one of the leaders in the country that speaks wisdom on all matters and he joined the APC in order to strengthen political unity in the state for the purpose of bringing more development to his people.”
He said the leadership’s qualities of President Muhammadu Buhari and his support for the state despite being in opposition were also some of the factors that influence the governor’s decision to join the ruling party.
He said it was sheer wickedness for anyone to suggest that he was forced to join APC when it was so glaring that the state and it’s people benefited immensely from the magnanimity of the ruling party, adding that such gestures alone were enough to endear the party to any development minded state executive.
He said the people of the state would continue to be grateful to the president and APC top hierarchy for rallying round them through their trying times.
