Lauretta Onochie, Special Assistant to the President on Social Media told the Senate Committee on the Independent National Electoral
Commission (INEC) on Wednesday that she always stands for justice and
fairness.
Onochie who appeared before the Kabiru Gaya (APC Kano)-led committee,
was reacting to questions based on the many petitions against her
before the senators.
She appeared for screening along with other nominees appointed by
President Muahammadu Buhari as INEC commissioners.
Onochie who was listed as the last nominee to be screened, answered
questions based on her integrity and partisanship as INEC
commissioner.
In her response however, she said the petitions against her nomination
are because she follows due process.
“I have seen the petitions against me but I stand for justice and
fairness. Thus nobody has anything to fear. I am Madam Due Process and
this is the reason behind my attacks, because I follow the law and due
process.
“I have no partisanship bone in my body until I was invited to come
and work with President Muhammadu Buhari,” she said.
Onochie said she ceased to be a member of any political party after
the 2019 general elections. “Since Buhari was elected as president for
the second term, I have removed myself from everything about politics.
Since 2019, I don’t have anything to do with politics. As I am sitting
down here, I am not a member of any political party in this country,”
she claimed.
