President Muhammadu Buhari has directed ministers and permanent secretaries to redouble their efforts and work in synergy toward the total delivery of the government’s set targets to improve the livelihood of all Nigerians.
Buhari said this on Tuesday in his closing remarks at the end of the Mid-Term Ministerial Performance Review Retreat in Abuja.
He also instructed the ministers to ramp up the implementation of their mandates along the nine priority areas of his administration.
Buhari also said he has directed the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development to develop a legislative framework for social protection to guarantee its funding stream.
He said the government’s Social Investment Programmes (SIPs) would be sustained in the coming years, and would
continue to reach out to the poorest and most vulnerable households through the national cash transfer programme and other initiatives.
The president said Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) palyed a critical role in economic growth and development, adding that efforts would be geared towards removing all bottlenecks that obstruct access to government support schemes.
He said his administration will build a more resilient economy, especially as Nigeria recovers from the coronavirus pandemic that brought the world to its knees.
Buhari said government would continue to implement fiscal measures to improve the nation’s domestic revenues and mobilise external funding support.
