An official of Kaduna State Traffic Law Enforcement Agency (KASTELEA) on Friday beat a driver to death.
The driver was killed after an altercation with the marshal along Ali Akilu road, Unguwar Sarki, Kaduna State.
The incident happened around 4pm and led to a serious traffic gridlock in the area and its environs.
The yet-to-be identified driver died after sustaining head injury, witnesses said.
The driver was reportedly hit with a rod during the altercation with the KASTELEA marshal.
The traffic officials fled the scene after the driver slumped and died.
The spokesperson of the Kaduna Police Command, ASP Mohammed Jalige, said the Commissioner of Police Mudassiru Abdullahi had ordered the arrest of those behind the incident.
He said the police will commence full investigation.
“There was an altercation between KASTLEA and some drivers. They beat him and was rushed to hospital where he died. So, the drivers decided to block the main road in protest but we stopped them,” he said.
The General Manager KASTLEA, Corps Marshal Garba Yahaya Rimi, couldn’t comment on the incident until he is fully briefed.
