Former Governor of Kogi state, Ibrahim Idris, says he secured his first bank loan while owning a furniture factory in Sokoto state.
He said this on Monday during an interview with journalists in Sokoto.
Idris was turbaned on Sunday as Jekadan Sokoto by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Saad Abubakar III.
The former governor said his relationship with Sokoto began with his early days as a furniture factory owner.
He said: ” I secured my first loan of £4,500 in Sokoto and that time i was the only one supplying furniture to schools and institutions in the old Sokoto state.
“In fact, they (Sokoto people) have shown me love. I have nothing to say on the love and support because I see them as part of me.
” I am impressed by what I have become today. It takes honesty, straight forwardness and trust to make impact in life. I can’t quantify my bond with Sokoto state and its people,” he said
The former Governor who was fondly known as “Ibro carpenter” in the state, however stressed the need for tolerance among Nigerians.
“Our unity is paramount at this period of time. We must tolerate one another. We must unite and work for peace, and development of our nation,” he said.
He assured to take full responsibility of his new title as an Ambassador of the Sokoto caliphate by striving hard for the development of the country.
