A 15-year-old girl allegedly raped and impregnated by two personnel of the Nigeria Customs Service in Rijiyar Hamza village, Katsina local government area, has petitioned Katsina State House of Assembly,
The girl, name withheld, alleged that the personnel had consistently raped her for six months, and paid her N200 each time they raped her.
The Chairman, State House of Assembly Committee on Public Petition, Abduljalal Haruna-Runka, who disclosed this to journalists on Thursday in Katsina, said the House has commenced investigation into the matter, after the petition was read at the plenary.
He said the petition was brought by Queen Dijah Women and Children Awareness Initiative, a nonprofit organization.
Runka said the committee will invite the suspects and the victim during investigation, and submit its finding when the House resumes sitting in April.
The organization in the petition signed by its president, Khadija Saulawa, stated that the victim said the two men usually come with a Hilux vehicle with tinted glasses, lured and had sex with the her inside the vehicle.
It said: “It is our observation that the suspects took undue advantage of the poverty and humble background of the said teenage girl’s family.
“It is with heavy heart and great consternation that we inform you that the victim has delivered a baby boy three months ago.
“We became aware that a purported amicable settlement was made between the suspects and the parents/relatives of the victim, whereby at the end of every month, each of the suspects contributes N15,000 for feeding the pregnant teenage girl.
“However, after the transfer of the suspects from Katsina, they started abdicating from their responsibility, which we found incongruous, because the gravity of the offence is not the one that can be settled, hence this petition.”
