Minister of Niger Delta Affairs Senator Godwin Akpabio was reported to have said at a capacity building workshop in Uyo on Friday that Niger Delta Development Commission [NDDC], which he supervises, is broke. He attributed this to poor funding and staggered release of budgeted funds. He then called for improved funding of NDDC “to carry out more sustainable projects and programs.”
Look here Mr. Minister, staggered or not, who will pour more money into NDDC, given what was revealed at a National Assembly hearing last year about its handling of funds, which was only the tip of the iceberg? So that when its management is called to explain, someone will pretend to faint, the microphones will be turned off, the investigative session will adjourn sine die and billions of naira will again go down a bottomless pit?
