The Chief Imam of Sabon Garin Bilbis Jumu’at mosque in Faskari local government area under Katsina has been killed by bandits.
Sabon Garin Bilbis is a border community between Zamfara and Katsina states.
A resident of the village, Lawal Mamman Bilbis, told 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE that Imam Malam Adam was killed on Monday while supervising work at his farm, which is a stone throw from the village.
Bilbis said the bandits also kidnapped some women working on the farm,
adding the Chief Imam was the target of the attack, as nothing was
taken away from the farm by the assailants during the attack.
He said when the bandits stormed the farm, they ordered the Chief Imam
to climb on one of their motorcycles and follow them, but he declined.
“When it became obvious he was not ready to follow them, they started
to threaten him with the gun, “Bilbis said.
“After some arguments, one of the bandits said they should just kill
him and leave the place. They killed him and left his corpse there
while an unknown number of women were taken away.”
The spokesperson of the state Police Command, Gambo Isa, didn’t
respond to calls and text messages sent to his mobile line to confirm
the incident.
