The Kano State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into the killing of a 35-year-old woman, Fatima Abubakar, and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters of Kano metropolis.
According to a statement signed by the Police command’s Public Relations Officer Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the incident, occurred around 12:10pm on Friday, January 17, 2025, when unknown assailants broke into the residence of one Haruna Bashir and attacked members of his household.
The police statement said the victims were assaulted with dangerous weapons, sustaining severe injuries that led to their deaths.
It added that following a distress call, the Commissioner of Police in Kano State, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, immediately deployed a team of officers led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, Lawal Isah Mani, to the scene.
It further revealed that the victims were evacuated and taken to the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, where medical personnel confirmed them dead, adding that the Commissioner of Police has also directed the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department, ACP Wada Jarma, to lead a thorough investigation aimed at identifying and arresting those responsible for the attack.
“The Kano State Police Command expressed condolences to the family of the victims, residents of Dorayi Chiranchi and the people of Kano State, while assuring the public that efforts were ongoing to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The police urged members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that could aid the investigation,” said the statement.
