Operatives of the Department of State Service (DSS) and police officers have surrounded the palace of Emir of Kano, popularly known as Gidan Rumfa.
The armed personnel have barricaded movement from in and outside the palace.
This is following Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II’s controversial appointment of Munir Sanusi as Wamban Kano and district head of Bichi.
Until recently, Bichi was an emirate headed by Alhaji Nasiru Ado Bayero.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf sacked Mr Bayero as Bichi emir and disbanded the emirate.
The case has been lingering in courts ever since.
The security personnel came when Emir Sanusi was about to leave the palace to Bichi for the installation of the mew district head.
Sources said the emir is holed up in Gidan Rumfa, making frantic phone calls, while the entrance of the palace was also blocked by armoured personnel carrier (APC) vehicles.
The palace in Bichi was equally surrounded by security agents.
