Ibrahim Gusau has quit as the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) along with other board members.
Gisau announced this on Thursday in Abuja at a press conference.
The NFF had come under criticism following the dwindling fortunes of Nigeria’s football national teams.
The Super Eagles failed to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup while the Super Falcons also failed to qualify for the Women World Cup for the first time.
Cameroon beat the Falcons 1-0 in the last Women AFCON hosted by Morocco.
It was learnt that security agents are investigating the board for allegedly mismanaging funds the Federal Government released for the national football teams.
Specifically , the Department of State Services, DSS, together with other security agencies are investigating the NFF over the utilisation of the N17 billion Federal Government intervention fund released to the Federation for players’ wages and bonuses.
President Bola Tinubu reportedly approved the fund in 2024 to clear outstanding payments owed to Nigeria’s national teams.
The DSS is reportedly going after the officials of NFF to show proof of what they did with the fund released to the Glass house.
An inside source of the security agency revealed that “It’s a normal thing for DSS to go through all documents relating to the funds released to them.”
