Bandits have gunned down at least six farmers and wounded one other in fresh attacks in the Foron and Gero communities spanning Jos South and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas in Plateau State,
The National President of the Berom Youth Moulder-Association (BYM), Solomon Dalyop, said the victims were attacked at a mining site in the Gero community at about 9:34 a.m.
Dalyop said the gunmen shot at the miners at the site, forcing others to flee for safety.
Also, BYM spokesperson Rwang Tengwong said one person was killed by gunmen near the Foron community in Barkin Ladi LGA.
He identified the victim as Mr. Ayuba Pam Choji, aged 44, who he said was brutally stabbed to death.
“A lone survivor, who was riding on the same motorcycle with the deceased, narrated that the assailants suddenly emerged from hiding and attacked them without provocation.”
Tengwong said the eyewitness revealed that the attackers had earlier hidden around the Bisichi axis, from where they allegedly issued threats and an ultimatum for residents to vacate the area on or before January 7, 2026.
The BYM said after the attack, the assailants were reportedly seen returning back towards the Bisichi area, adding that members of the Fulani ethnic group were behind the attacks.
However, the Plateau State Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, denied the allegations, saying “it is unfortunate that the Berom would always accuse us of crimes we know nothing about.
“We are not aware of these claims. Despite attacks on herders and their cattle, we are still being accused of attacking others. The allegation is baseless and uncalled for.”
