A gun battle between police and bandits at a checkpoint has claimed the lives of a police man and unidentified gunman.
The shootout was in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State capital.
The state spokesperson, Chris Anyanwu, revealed that the clash was on Monday night at the Presco in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.
The attackers invaded a police checkpoint along the Presco junction axis of the ever-busy Enugu-Abakaliki express road again.
The attack caused panic and tension along the major express road as motorists and commuters ran for safety while the exchange gun battle lasted.
A local in the area revealed that the attackers operated from atop of a motorcycle when they attacked the police officers on their duty post at the junction.
The gunmen, on arriving at the junction, opened fire on the policemen on duty while the policemen responded immediately resulting.
