A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State, Sylvester Ntefre, has been reportedly assassinated.
Ntefre, a former chairman of the party in OrukAnam Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, was said to have been killed after his abduction from his residence in Ekparakwa by some yet-to-identified gunmen who arrived the community shooting sporadically.
The incident was said to have occurred on Sunday morning.
The gunmen arrived at the residence of the deceased in a black jeep and dragged him outside while other members of the gang were shooting to scare neighbours.
However, the youths moblised the community members who chased after them.
The chieftain was said to have been killed in a nearby bush by the assailants who abandoned their black jeep and flee.
Sources who spoke to the paper said the incident was politically-motivated, coming close to the party’s primary.
State Police Command through its Public Relations Officer, Odiko Mcdon, said he was yet to receive an official report on the incident.
