Gunmen have killed two policemen at two checkpoints in Enugu state on Wednesday.
The attacks took place at Enugu state south LGA and Amagunze in Nkanu
east LGA on Wednesday evening.
A vehicle and a motorcycle were reportedly burnt during the attack.
Spokesperson of the Enugu police command, Daniel Ndukwe, said details
about the attacks were “sketchy.”
”Preliminary investigations have commenced. Further development will
be communicated, please,” Ndukwe was quoted as saying.
However, a witness, Obinna Nweke, told the NAN that the duel “was like a war”.
“What happened at the section of the road at Obeagu Amechi community
was like a war situation as the heavy shooting continued unabated and
everybody had to run for safety,” Nweke said
“After the gun duel between the police and unknown gunmen around 7:00
pm, the whole Enugu-Amechi-Agbani Road was deserted.
Another witness, said a civilian was hit by a stray bullet.
“Thank God, myself and the commercial motorcycle operator carrying me
are still alive and not hit by stray bullets emanating from the
cross-fire,” Okoh said.
