A serving councillor and nine other persons have been were killed in a fresh clash between farmers and herders in Donga Local Government Area of Taraba State.
A local in Donga town, Lawal Adamu, told Daily Trust that the crisis broke out on Saturday at Gundom village when a herder allegedly led his cattle into a farm in the village, destroying crops.
Adamu revealed that villagers reportedly accosyed the herder and killed him, which led to violent reprisals between farmers and herders in the area.
Lawal said of more than ten people, including the councillor were murdered in the fight, adding that the exact number of casualties on both sides could not be determined as at the time of filing this report.
The state Police spokesperson, ASP Victor Mshelizah, who confirmed the incident. said only three dead bodies and a wounded woman had so far been recovered by the police at the scene.
Mshelizah said the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Donga Division is leading a team of operatives in a search of nearby forests to determine if there are more casualties.
