Gunmen have kidnapped three siblings who were conveying the corpse of their late mother from Abuja to Ohimini Local Government Area of Benue State on Saturday.
The siblings were reportedly were waylaid at a spot along the Ogobia–Otukpo between Omutele and Ankpechi villages in Oglewu District, where armed invaders reportedly attacked a few days ago.
The siblings’ mother died in Abuja and was being taken for burial.
Locals said they heard gunshots between 3:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m., forcing them to flee to safety.
Some witnesses and the family’s vehicle had a mechanical fault during the journey, leaving the occupants stranded on the road until about 2:00 a.m. adding that the armed men accosted the siblings as they attempted to resume their journey after the vehicle broke down.
The Chairman of Ohimini Local Government Area, Gabriel Adole, confirmed the news, “I’m going to the scene now to ascertain what really happened.”
The State Police spokesperson DSP Udeme Edet, could not be reached for comments as he did not respond to telephone calls or a text message sent to her at the time of filing this report.
