The Abia State Government has clarified that gunmen attacked an advance team working for Gov. Alex Otti in Imo State, but not the governor’s convoy that was not part of the movement.
The Governor’s spokesperson, Ukoha Ukoha, made this known in Umuahia on Tuesday.
Ukoha said the three-member advance team was heading to the Sam Mbakwe Airport in the early hours of the day when their vehicle was fired at along the Umuowa–Ihite axis of Imo.
He said the attack, which occurred shortly before the airport junction, left the officials shaken but unharmed and refuted social media posts that Otti’s convoy was targeted.
He said Otti was nowhere near the route at the time.
“The general public is hereby informed that the convoy of Gov. Otti was not involved in this attack, and no life was lost during the unfortunate incident,” he said.
