Gunmen have attacked scores of staff and at St. Mary’s School, a Catholic institution in Papiri community, Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State.
An anonymous source at the Catholic church in Niger State said the school was still compiling its records.
“Yes, it is true, but I am not in a position to give details. The church will issue an official statement later in the day,” he said.
The Head of Department, Disaster and Relief, Agwara Local Government, Ahmed Abdullahi Rofia, confirmed the incident, saying the invaders struck between 2:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m., but could not give the exact numbers of both the students and staff taken away by the gunmen.
The spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, has pledged that he would provide details later.
This is the second attack and kidnapping of students at a school within five days as the first one was in Kebbi State when bandits attacked Government Comprehensive Girls Secondary School Maga, where 26 students were abducted.
The Kwara State government shut down over 50 schools in Isin, Irepodun, Ifelodun, and Ekiti Local Government Areas due to rampaging bandits.
