Gunmen have attacked a burial ceremony in Ndingbu village, Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
One person was abducted during the attack that happened on Friday.
This is coming barely two months after another burial service at Ezinifitte, a community in the same local government area, was disrupted by gunmen.
The latest attack, it was learned, was targeted at targeted vigilante operatives who were policing the mourners at the event.
Spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, has confirmed the attack.
He said the state Commissioner of Police, CP Echeng Echeng, has ordered a manhunt for the armed men who allegedly attacked vigilante operatives in a burial event at Ndingbu village, Nnewi.
Ikenga said the security operatives, including the Mobile Force, Counter-Terrorist Unit, Special forces and others, have been ordered to go after the gunmen.
He said, “Although no notification was given to the Police about the planned burial, information reveals that the vigilante groups were invited.
“Further details received showed that the miscreants arrived at the ceremony and started shooting sporadically in an attempt to disarm the vigilante operatives.”
