Ramadan palliatives reportedly meant to be distributed in Gombe State by Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, have been looted.
A video shows some angry youths taking away cartons of food items from a truck parked by the roadside and throwing the items to those on the ground who eagerly collected and made away with them.
The items were rice, sugar, oil, salt and pasta.
Two trucks containing 3,500 cartons of the above items were said to have been allocated to Gombe.
The contents of one truck was distributed, while that of the other truck was emptied by youths.
It was learnt that the seizing of the trucks was against the All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders whom they accused of cornering the first consignment that was distributed at the state APC Secretariat,.
The APC did not respond to inquiry on the development.
Seyi, under the Renewed Hope Youth Engagement Initiative, has been visiting states in the north and distributing Ramadan palliatives.
It is learnt that the outreach by Seyi was to assuage emerging resistance to his father’s re-election bid.
In a Facebook post, Shamsuddeen Bala Mohammed, the son of Bauchi State Governor, criticised Seyi’s initiative, saying instead of food palliative, he should engage sustainable empowerment programmes.
According to him, “Please, when coming to Bauchi for the #RHYE, empower our youths with employment, Keke NAPEP, monies to start a business, ICT infrastructure and training for crypto trading, and so on.
“Please, we, the youths of Bauchi, don’t need rice and food in nylon bags during Ramadan.
“Teach our youths how to fish rather than feed them for one day. They are not beggars,” he added.
