Famous Kannywood comedian, Sani Ibrahim Tsiga, also known as Sani Dan Gwari, has revealed that the industry had forgotten about many artist especially those that belong to late comedian Rabilu Musa Ibro’s drama group. According to him, with the death of Ibro many members of the group had relocated to their states and to their various professions to continue living outside the territory of what they enjoy doing, which is acting.
Popular for his ability to mimic the Gbagyi Hausa version, Dan Gwari has been very instrumental in the development of comedy in the Hausa entertainment sector known today as Kannywood. Now playing the role of Ndiye in Gidan Badamasi TV series, Dan Gwari said he and other drama group members of late Ibro were forced out of business after the death of Ibro, because no one was then willing to involve them in the business any more.
“After Ibro’s demise my career and that of other members of the late Ibro drama group seemed to have come to an end, I personally thought that I would never act again, but for being known in the industry, I kept going with roles here and there. I also tried producing films just to keep afloat in the industry. Fortunately for many of us, after several years of waiting, then came ‘Gidan Badamasi’, by Director Falalu Dorayi. That TV series was what gave us the lifeline we are currently using as artists in Kannywood,” he revealed.
The Katsina indigene revealed that he was introduced in to Kannywood by late Ibro adding that he will forever remain indebted to the late comedian as his wish is to revive the olden dan Ibro drama group to immortalize the late comedian.
