Germany’s antitrust agency said on Tuesday that it had opened an investigation into Microsoft (MSFT.O) to determine if the US tech behemoth is “of paramount importance for competition across markets.”
Andreas Mundt, head of the Bundeskartellamt, stated that there are “good reasons” to investigate whether this is the case with Microsoft.
“Such a finding would allow us to intervene at an early stage and prevent potentially anti-competitive acts,” he said in a statement.
