Abdullahi and Hafsatu Ganduje Foundation has donated N10 million to Dr. Mahmud Muhammad, a medical doctor working with Uthman Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH), Sokoto who has been suffering from eye ailment.
The foundation donated a cash support of N10 million naira to cover medical expenses for Dr Mahmud at Aravind Eye Hospital, India.
Dr. Mahmud was diagnosed months ago, with hazy cornea and large deep cornea vascularization which resulted in bilateral blindness.
He was left with an only option of seeking medical care in India for Cornea Transplantation to restore his vision, as the procedure is not available in Nigeria.
Speaking during the handing over of the cash assistance, the acting DG of the Foundation, Dr. Abubakar Isah Bakori, stated that the donation became necessary to save the young and promising medical doctor from total blindness.
“The active medical doctor has been taking care of other patients, and as fate will have it he is now also urgently in need of our assistance and support to regain his eyesight through Cornea Transplantation. Therefore, the assistance given is our way of paying back for his contributions to the well-being of Nigerians,” he said.
The donation was handed over to him through the Resident Doctors Association in Sokoto.
