The Rivers State House of Assembly has continued impeachment proceedings against Gov. Siminalaye Fubara and his deputy, Nma Odu.
All 26 members of the assembly on Friday unanimously resolved during plenary to proceed with the impeachment process against Fubara and Odu.
Consequently, the lawmakers resolved to write to the Chief Judge of the state, as enshrined in Section 188 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
They are urging the CJ to constitute a seven-man investigative panel to examine the alleged gross misconduct leveled against the governor and his deputy.
The latest action is following in the footsteps of four members of the Rivers State House of Assembly who have reversed their decision not to be part of the process and declared support for the process.
The lawmakers – the Minority Leader of the House, Sylvanus Nwankwo; Peter Abbey, representing Degema Constituency; Barile Nwakoh of Khana Constituency I; and Emilia Amadi of Obio/Akpor Constituency II – during the week in pairs of two each announced their withdrawal from the impeachment process.
The lawmakers announced their decision on Friday in a live broadcast aired from the front of the Rivers State House of Assembly complex.
Nwankwo recalled that on January 12 2026, he and his colleague, Peter Abbeyhad pleaded with their other colleagues to find a political solution to this impasse between the Assembly and Fubara.2 / 1:01
“During the pendency of this appeal, we found out that the governor and the deputy governor, they have all employed their media boys and aides to continuously attack the Rivers State House of Assembly instead of seeking for the political solution which we offer, it is on this basis that I, Honourable Sylvanus Nwankwo, and my fellow colleague here, Honorable Peter Abbey, say that the impeachment proceedings should continue.”
Also, Nwakoh and Amadi said they were now supporting the impeachment because Fubara and his deputy failed to resolve the crisis through dialogue.
