Governor Siminalayi Fabura of Rivers State has paid up the balance of 2024 Hajj fare for all the state’s intending pilgrims.
The state Sole Administrator of the Muslims Pilgrims Welfare Board, Abdulerazaq Diepriye announced this in Port Harcourt.
The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) had announced additional increase of N1.9 million on Sunday, March 24
Before the increase, the commission had asked intending pilgrims for the 2024 Hajj to pay a total of N4.9 million. The latest increase thus raised the new amount to N6.8 million for those who have been making deposits in installments.
NAHCON on March 24, 2024 announced that fresh depositors from the north would have to cough out N8.2 million, while their counterparts will pay N8.4 million.
The deadline for all the payments, according to NAHCON is Thursday march28, 2024.
Diepriye also revealed that Governor Fubara has earlier paid the full deposit for all the state’s Muslim intending pilgrims when NAHCON set the first fare, adding that the governor took the step to ensure that all the seas allocated to ether state were preserved and utilized effectively.
Diepriye said “the governor’s office took a bold decision to meet the December deadline for securing the allocation, adding that “the move was a way to provide an opportunity for the Muslim population to participate in this sacred pilgrimage, promoting a sense of belonging and equal representation.”
So far, 42 intending pilgrims from the state have registered to participate in this year’s pilgrimage, as revealed by NAHCON.
The Sole Administrator said “this would be the first time in six years that such a comprehensive gesture has been made, signaling a notable milestone in his (Fubara’s) style of governance.”
