The Police in Benue State Police Command has declared that the death of a French tourist, Pietier Gilles, in a hotel room located Gboko in the state was not natural.
The command’s spokesperson, Udeme Edet, who disclosed this to The PUNCH on Monday, added that Gille’s death was sudden at the Hotel Jovina he had lodged on June 6 before he fell ill, but refused to go to the clinic.
Gille reportedly lodged in the hotel on Friday, became ill the next day, but refused to be taken to a hospital.
It was learnt that the tourist’s sickness worsened, causing the hotel management to invite a medical practitioner for examination, but he was found dead.
Edet said upon receiving information about the incident, police operatives visited the hotel and rushed the victim to the hospital where he was confirmed dead.
She said, “It is a case of a SUD (sudden and unnatural death). The case has been transferred to the state CID for further investigation.”
The manager of the hotel, Amina Cordial, has failed to give details on the incident, said she was in going to Gboko, adding that “I don’t have details of the incident.
“But the owner of the hotel is around and must have done all that is needed to be done,” Cordial said.
