Defence Minister Mohammed Badaru Abubakar’s sudden resignation from President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet on Monday evening was said by the Presidency to be “on health grounds.”
It created curiosity because Badaru was the fourth high Administration official in two years to resign on health grounds.
In July 2023, then National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress [APC] Senator Abdullahi Adamu’s sudden resignation was said to be on health grounds.
Fourteen months later, the President’s highly visible spokesman Ajuri Ngelale suddenly resigned; his letter said it was to attend to the health of his family members. Five months ago,
Adamu’s successor as APC chairman, former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, suddenly resigned, also on health grounds.
Nigerians are now wondering: why did so many high officials resign on health grounds? Why can’t high officials offer reasons other than health for resigning, when we saw them walking briskly all over the place just before they resigned?
