Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, Founder and President of the MAAUN Group of Universities, has donated $100,000 to the Islamic University in Uganda.
Professor Gwarzo made the donation
at the weekend when he served as a special guest of honour at the university’s 33rd convocation held in Mbale.
The university also presented an award of excellence to Professor Gwarzo in recognition of his selfless contributions to the institution’s development.
Presenting the award, the Council Chairman of the University, H.E. Prof. Dr. Muhammad A.S.E.A Altabtabaei from Kuwait, commended Prof. Gwarzo for his dedication to the university.
“I was informed by the university management about your contributions. On behalf of the council, I wish to extend our deepest appreciation to you,” Prof. Altabtabaei said.
In his acceptance speech, the MAAUN founder expressed gratitude to the university for the recognition and announced a donation of $100,000 to support its growth.
On his part, the Rector of the University in Kampala, Prof. Dr. Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda, praised Mr Gwarzo for his generosity and prayed to God to bless him abundantly.
He described Prof. Gwarzo as a philanthropist known for fulfilling his promises.
“This donation is significant. On behalf of the students and staff of the Islamic University in Uganda, we sincerely express our appreciation and pray to Allah SWT to bless your wealth,” Prof. Gyagenda said.
Professor Gwarzo is the founder of Maryam Abacha American University of Niger and Nigeria, Franco-British International University Kaduna, and Canadian University of Nigeria Abuja.
The famous edupreneur and philanthropist led a 17-man delegation from Nigeria to attend the convocation in Uganda.
The Islamic University in Uganda was established in 1988, and is the second university in Uganda.
