Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has directed the immediate demolition of all structures built on the Kwarin-Gogau stream in the metropolitan area.
This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba, while briefing journalists after the State Executive Council meeting in Kano on Wednesday.
Ge said the government has marked for demolition all structures on drainage lines within and surrounding Kantin-Kwari Market.
“The council directed that all temporary structures mounted on the drainage system within and around the market should be removed with immediate effect,” he said.
He said that measure would assist in removing all obstacles that hinder smooth flow of both storm and waste water in the area.
The measure, he said, was sequel to the Report of Rapid Assessment of Flooding in the state submitted to the council by the Commissioners of works and environment, Alhaji Idris Wada and Dr Kabiru Getso, respectively.
