Twenty people have been abducted when bandits attacked communities in Dange Shuni local government area of Sokoto.
The bandits were said to have fled the military offensive in Bakura/Talata Mafara axis of Zamfara State.
There is an ongoing intensive operation against bandits by the Nigerian military in forests in Zamfara State, which has been supported with the suspension of mobile telecommunications networks, closure of cattle markets, and ban of the sale of petrol in jerry cans.
A security source told 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE that communites in Dange Shuni have witnessed influx of bandits due to the military offensives in Zamfara State.
Sokoto State Commissioner for Security Affairs, Garba Moyi, confirmed that 20 people have been abducted by the fleeing bandits in Sokoto on Tuesday.
Moyi said fleeing bandits from Zamfara had been moving into Sokoto, and kidnapping people. He said sometimes the bandits attacked the communities to steal food while on the run.
